The establishment of a continuing story arc which will be seen throughout Season 4.
The revelation of more backstory on Luna and Celestia.
More screen time (and plotline significance) for Discord.
Tying up loose ends from the previous seasons through flashbacks and character interaction.
Twilight Sparkle taking a significant leadership role in Equestria.
The fight between Nightmare Moon and Celestia.
The introduction of a plot element, the key box, as a mystery device.
Shared screen time between the Mane Six, Spike, Celestia, Luna, Discord and Zecora.
The removal of the “deus ex machina” known as the Elements of Harmony, even if possibly only temporarily.

I wish thee was a choice for everything because there are a lot to love and I pretty much loved everything about it.
The episodes were really that good.
